Chicago, Illinois, USA

The Rockwell Group redesigned Chicago’s Fairmont Hotel, whose main reception area in the lobby now features a custom Terrazzo Lumina floor and wall designed to feel like a water feature, but without the water.

The designers provided the custom pattern on light points, digitally translated into illuminated light points within the floor and wall tiles. Due to the requirements of the space, remotely-located illuminators housed behind the wall power the Terrazzo Lumina feature. Fiber optic cables carry the light, which is brought into the material, making this an easy to maintain system.
